Summary:
The following blog post is dedicated to analyzing fly-back circuit protection circuits for relay coils and its impact with respect to the relay's coil switching performance and the contact release time.
Two relays are analyzed: TE SR6B6K24 and Omron G7SA-3A3B. Both test boards use the same activation and monitoring circuits.

D4 => Testing the traditional through-hole 1N4007 flyback diode and a 24V TVS diode.
D5 + D6 => Testing through hole Shottky and 24V Zener diode combination.
D7 + D8 => Testing SMD Shottky and 24V Zener diode combination.
